Take a few minutes to learn how to capture a screenshot if you are a new Mac user or have owned a Mac for a little while but never used this function. It makes sense to jump on the screenshot bandwagon, mainly because it gives you something to look back on. "Let's forget that you're late to the party and embrace the fact that you showed up at all," said Sam Seaborn on "The West Wing."
My screenshots of confirmations are necessary when I buy tickets, make a bill payment, or schedule an appointment. By organising the cost before the due date, if my credit card payment does not post on the day I planned it, I will have evidence that I scheduled it in advance. In addition, you can also save pictures by taking a screenshot on a Mac if you'd rather not download them. The screenshot you take can be of a specific part of your screen, a particular window, or your entire screen, no matter if you're a Mac novice or an experienced user.
Using the command + shift + 3 keyboard shortcut is the quickest and easiest way to take a screenshot of your entire screen on a MacBook. You can take a screenshot of all the items on your MacBook screen by pressing all three keys simultaneously. An icon indicating the screenshot will appear in the lower-right corner of your screen, which you can click to view, edit, share or delete.
A PNG file will be saved to your desktop as a PNG file, and you will also see a quick preview of it. Taking more than one screenshot at a time will eventually result in the preview screen disappearing. So, if you're taking several screenshots at once, it's best to wait until the preview slide disappears.

Some screenshots might require a certain size for a variety of reasons. If you have been asked to submit an image with a certain number of pixels, a certain extent, or if you wish to take multiple screenshots of the same dimensions, you might be required to provide an image.
You might think you must edit the screenshot after it's been taken to accomplish this; in fact, you can choose the dimensions as you take the screenshot - and use the same dimensions again once it's been taken. In a one-time situation where you would like to take a screenshot at a specific measurement, do the following:
The combination Command + Shift + 4
should be held simultaneously.
Please select a screen section using your trackpad or mouse and drag a marquee over it. A crosshair with a number will appear on your screen - this number indicates how many pixels you will be grabbing. You will see how the numbers around the crosshairs change as you do so.
Dragging until the measurement corresponds with what you need will produce that measurement. Suppose you want a square, then make sure both the height and width are equal.
In order to position the box on the screen, you need to press the Space Bar first, followed by releasing the mouse button/trackpad, then move it around until you reach the area you want to capture.
You can release the mouse button/trackpad when you're satisfied with what you've selected.
In the case of frequently taking images of the same size - we tend to use 1,600 x 900 images; for example - you can set your crosshairs by pressing Command + Shift + 5 ahead of time.

At the same time, hold down Command + Shift + 5. Follow the steps below to do so:
You need to drag the crosshairs on your screen so that they cover an area with pixel width and depth equal to the size you need on your screen. When you release the mouse button, the box will move around your screen until you have covered the area where you want to screenshot, so you don't have to worry about how you protect the size you want.
(If you're using macOS Mojave or later, click Capture when you're satisfied with your selection).
It seems almost impossible to take a screenshot at times since you need to interact with the application and take a screenshot simultaneously. Thanks to a technical fix, this is possible. You need to follow these steps in order to take a timed screenshot (Mojave or later):
While holding down Command + Shift + 5, press 5.
Now select Options.
Scroll down to Timer and choose 5 or 10 seconds.
Depending on which type of screengrab you want to take, scroll down to it. Select an entire window, select a portion of the screen.
Watch the timer begin. After the timer reaches zero, you will see the screenshot.

Using Grab can be used to take a timed screenshot in an older version of macOS or Mac OS X. Grab can be found in the Utility folder (located in the Applications folder) if you press Command + Space while typing it.
Grab the document.
Choosing Capture > Timed Screen will capture it.
To begin the timer, click Start Timer.
You'll see a red dial fill up next to the camera icon as soon as you click on it, showing how much time is left before the screen is grabbed.
You'll be able to capture a whole screen using this method - though, depending on your needs, you can focus on one particular element later on.
Grab allows you to take a snapshot of any portion of the screen, a window, or even the entire screen (all with shortcuts you can use later on), as well as timed screenshots (select Timed Screen) so you can set up the capture and then activate whatever you want to capture. Ten seconds have been counted down.
function on my Macbook Air doesn't work, right?
In the event that you cannot capture a screen on your MacBook Air, you probably are trying to screenshot an application with copyright protection. Most streaming apps and websites like Netflix and Disney Plus place these limits on their services in order to protect their partners' rights and prevent piracy.
On a MacBook Air, you may have to install a third-party screenshot app designed to circumvent these limitations before you can capture a screenshot of streaming media. Additionally, you may use software such as OBS Studio or a browser extension such as FireShot to capture and record the screen.
You can fine-tune your screenshots by following these tips:
You can evaluate the position by releasing the keyboard keys once the crosshairs appear.
You can move the selected area around by pressing Space after clicking the mouse button and dragging the cursor.
If you hold Shift, you will be limited to horizontal movement only.
Using the Escape key on your keyboard will cancel the screen capture. This will not create or capture an image.
You will be able to copy the screenshot to your pasteboard if you press Control simultaneously.

The screenshots taken by Macs are saved to the desktop by default. In Mojave or later, however, you have the option to save your screenshot in a variety of other locations. Using an app such as Grab (available in earlier versions of macOS) for screenshot taking might result in them being stored somewhere else. When you use Grab, the screenshot is likely to be saved in your Documents folder - and if you don't change its name, it will be named Untitled. When using Mojave or later, you can change the location where screenshots are saved:
Press Command + Shift + 5 simultaneously.
Press the Options button.
Scroll down to the Save to section to select the location you want to save to.
Alternatively, you can choose Other Location to save the image elsewhere.
Those interested in more detailed information, including how to change the location of screenshots in High Sierra and older versions of Mac software, can find more information in the separate article.
