The availability of ultrawide monitors has increased in recent years, contributing to the product category's subsequent rise in demand. There is something about the appearance of a curved monitor that causes the user to feel as though they have been submerged in a sea of pixels. This is true regardless of whether the user is writing a review on the newest technology or spending hours playing their favorite game. But you aren't making the most of all that space if you're only using one window at a time when several are available.

Suppose you split the screen on your laptop. In that case, you can run multiple applications at once, view research on one half of the screen while working on a Word document on the other half, or display various status displays across your monitor.

Windows 10 has several built-in features that make splitting the screen as easy as dragging the net. Third-party apps can be used for more complex control. This article will examine how to break one monitor to use all the space on your screen. With Windows 10 Snap Assist, you can split the screen.

With Windows 10, you can drag and drop a window to the part of the screen where you want it to snap. This feature is called "Snap Assist." First, make sure that this feature is turned on.

● Click Start, then click Settings.

● Click System and then click the tab labeled "Multitasking."

There is something called the Snap Windows slider. Make sure the switch is turned on.

You can also choose from some other options, such as:

● When I snap a window, make it automatically fit the space it has.

● Show me what I can snap next to a window when I snap it.

● When I change the size of a snapped window, change the size of any other snapped windows next to it.

Once turned on, all you have to do to move a window to one side of the screen is click and drag it. Pulling it to the left side of the screen will take up half of the left side of the screen. If you drag it to the right, it will take up half of the right side of the screen.

If you drag a window to one of the screen's four corners, it will fill that quadrant. If you move it to the top of the screen, the window will take up the whole screen. Once a window is in place, you can grab the line between any two windows and move it to change the size of each window.

You can show two windows side by side, or you can show four windows side by side. You can also make one window take up half of the screen while two others take up the top and bottom of the other half. But you can't snap three windows together in a side-by-side-by-side layout without a third-party app.

How to Split Screen on Windows XP/7/8

If you have an older version of Windows, you might not have the same built-in tools as Windows 10, and many free options won't work. Don't worry, though; you can still split the screen.

Two programs can be opened in Windows 7. Right-click on the taskbar and choose "Show windows side by side" once the two apps are open. You now have two windows open at the same time. That's all there is to it. And if you look at the screenshot below, you'll see that you can also stack the windows on top of each other.

The Snap Assist feature was added to the Windows OS for the first time in Windows 7. It worked about the same way as the feature works in Windows 10. You can move an open window to the left or right side of the screen in the middle and then let go. It will fit perfectly.

Windows 8 is a little more complicated to use, but it works similarly. Windows 8 was made to work with touchscreen devices, but you can still use a mouse to control it. Open two apps and make one take up the whole screen. If you have a touchscreen, swipe in from the left side of the screen until the app is docked.

If you have a mouse, put it in the top left corner, click and hold the app, and drag it to where you want it on the screen. When both apps are open, a line will appear in the middle of the screen. You can change this line to make each app take up more or less space. Freeware lets you split the screen.

If the apps that come with Windows 10 don't give you enough control and utility, you can use freeware apps that provide you with access to more advanced features. WindowsGrid, GridMove, and AltDrag are just a few of these. We went into more detail about how the first two freeware programs work in a post that was similar to this one. The problem with freeware programs is that the people who make them make little or no money from them, so support for them can end quickly. Consider a paid program that does the same thing as a screen-splitting app if you want long-term support.

Options for Paid Software

Paid split-screen software has even more features than freeware and is more reliable because support will continue as long as people buy it. There is also customer service for these programs to help you with any technical problems you might run into.

Here are a few good choices:

A divvy is a tool for managing windows that lets you "split up" your windows into different parts. The software costs only $14, so most people can afford it, and it allows users to split their screens in several ways. It works like Windows Snap Assist, but users have more ways to set up their nets. Divvy lets users make shortcuts to change the size and shape of their screen in any way they want.

AquaSnap is like Divvy, but it lets you use the software on your computer for free. The price of "Pro" is $18. Even though it's not as powerful as Divvy, it's easier to use. AquaSnap doesn't have as many features or control, but the "Pro" version gives you access to a keyboard, mouse, and other shortcuts that make resizing your screen as easy as pressing a few buttons.

To use any of these tools, you don't need an ultra-widescreen. Splitting the screen is useful whenever you need to look at multiple sources of information simultaneously, but it shines on high-resolution screens.
