More than just viewing your apps and the time may be done with the taskbar. You may alter the colour, add your favourite apps as pins, and move or rearrange the taskbar buttons to make them uniquely yours. Additionally, you can check the charge of your battery and momentarily reduce all running programmes in order to view your desktop.
Attach a programme to the taskbar

When using a desktop, pin a programme directly to the taskbar for quick access. (If you prefer, unpin it.) You can access the Jump List, a list of shortcuts to recently accessed files, folders, and websites, from Start or any other active window
From the taskbar itself, customize the taskbar. Use the Taskbar settings to modify several characteristics of the taskbar at once. Taskbar settings can be accessed by right-clicking or holding down any empty area on the taskbar.

There are settings for centring or aligning taskbar icons on the left, but there aren't any for relocating a taskbar to the top or a side of the screen. The taskbar always appears at the bottom of the screen by default.

Change the taskbar's colour.
Select Personalization under Start > Settings.
Scroll to Accent colour after choosing Colors.
On the Start screen and taskbar, enable Show accent colour. Your taskbar's colour will be changed to match your overall theme as a result.
Note that you may only access this option if you choose Dark or Custom as your Windows colour (under Choose your mode). You must select Dark to Choose your default Windows mode if you select Custom.

2. Turn on the option to "Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode." The taskbar will immediately disappear. Every time your computer is in desktop mode, this will have an impact on the taskbar. Unless your machine is the only setting you need to worry about.
