How To Fix Broken Keyboard Connector

Your connector has a very delicate mechanism because it can get easily damaged if you apply too much force while trying to unlock it. In that, you need a new laptop keyboard connector locking clip. 

The laptop keyboard ribbon cable locking clip or the laptop ribbon clip clip retainer is made of thin plastic, and if it gets damaged, you are in great trouble since this part is not sold separately.

However, still, it happened, and the damage is done; how do you fix a broken keyboard?

The most common keyboard connector to laptop types has a base (white in my case) and a cable retainer (brown in my case).

When the laptop keyboard connector clip is closed, the cable is secured between the retainer and base.

When the retainer applies some pressure on the cable, it makes contact with the pins inside the connector.

To properly use the laptop keyboard connector pinout, move the retainer about 2 millimeters in the direction shown by two yellow arrows.

The attached base must remain on the retainer.

After this, you can pull the laptop keyboard cable and remove the keyboard. This is how to remove laptop keyboard connectors. 

You can move the retainer too far and break it if you aren't careful enough.

The retainer is broken on both sides since it lacks both locking hooks. The laptop keyboard locking clip has died now.

Please do not throw away the retainer so you can still use it.

Without the locking clip, the cable will not stay inside the connector.

Here's how you can fix this type of damage.

First, position the broken piece the way it was inserted before. Then, carefully insert the cable into the connector if the line exceeds the retainer.

Carefully push the broken clip back in place while holding the cable, for which you can use a small screwdriver.

Even though it has two broken hooks, the clip fits tightly into the connector. Then, test the keyboard by securing the connection with sticky tape. This would work fine.

Here's one more type of connector. The only difference is that its keyboard cable is routed under the locking clip. It would help if you fixed it in the same way as the previous connector.

There is another type of keyboard connector on laptop motherboards where the cable is inserted vertically.

You'll have to move the locking clip (brown piece) about 2 millimeters up in the direction shown by two yellow arrows to unlock the connector, and after that, you need to pull the keyboard cable (green arrow) by removing the keyboard. If you move the laptop keyboard clip too far, it will break; therefore, insert the laptop keyboard port cable into the Lenovo laptop keyboard connector and then post correctly position the broken retainer by carefully pushing it in.

The cable should be secured inside the HP laptop keyboard connector, even with a broken retainer.

There is also another way to laptop keyboard ribbon cable repair:

If you have lost the broken "Locking clip,"

It would help if you got some "electrical tape" on the back of the "flat cable" for some "thickness."

Insert the tape on the right side where there are no visible connections.

Carefully push the cable into the connector so it does not come loose, and the keyboard connector laptop will work just fine!
