After you click the option, Use Disk or ON, Time Machine begins a backup file of your MacBook Air. Later, after your MacBook Air has been reset to its factory settings, you can restore this backup by reconnecting your external hard Disk to the MacBook.

Step 1:- Switch off your MacBook Air.

After the Apple logo appears and it finishes starting up, you are shown the utility window, which means you are now in MacBook recovery mode.

Step 1: Click on the Disk Utility option.

Step 2:- Then Click on the Continue.

Step 3: Click on the View and then Show All Devices.

Step 4:- Select the hard drive you want to erase and click Erase.

Step 5:- Choose the APFS option on macOS High Sierra or later in the Format field. On macOS Sierra or an earlier version, select the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) option.

Step 6:- Now click on the erase button.

After clicking the erase button, you will clean your MacBook Air's hard drive. It can take several minutes to complete. After completing the process, you need to reinstall macOS. Follow these steps to reinstall macOS.

Reinstall macOS.

Step 1:- Click on the Reinstall macOS from the utility menu.

Step 2:- Click on the Continue button.
