Before you begin, create a backup of the MacBook Air before resetting it, especially if you plan to reuse it again or use your files and docs with a new Mac. For creating a backup file on Mac follow these simple steps:-
Step 1:- Connect to an external storage device to the MacBook.
Step 2:- Click on the Apple icon which is in the upper-left corner of the screen.
Step 3:- Click on the option System Preferences.
Step 4:- Then Click on the Time Machine.
Step 5:- Now Click on the Select Backup Disk.
Step 6:- Select your external drive and then click Encrypt backups and Use Disk.
Step 7:- Click the ON button in the left column of the Time Machine window, if it isn't in the ON position.
After you click on the option Use Disk or ON, Time Machine begins a backup file of your MacBook Air. Later, after your MacBook Air has been reset to its factory settings, you can restore this backup by reconnecting your external hard disk to the MacBook.
This involves signing out of the Apple services you're signed in to on your MacBook, such as iTunes, iCloud, and iMessage you need to sign out from all the apple services.
To sign out of your services follow these steps:-
Step 1:- Open your MacBook and refresh it.
Step 1:- Click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of the MacBook Air's screen.
Step 3:- Click on the option System Preferences.
Step 4:- Click Apple ID in macOS Catalina (10.15) and later
Step 5:- Click Overview and Sign Out in macOS Catalina (10.15) and later.
Before resetting your MacBook Air from its factory settings, make sure your Mac must be connected to the internet. You need to first boot up your MacBook in Recovery Mode.
Step 1:- Switch off your MacBook Air.
Step 2:- Press and hold the Command+R keys. During restarting your MacBook Air or switching it on, hold both keys until you see the Apple logo.
After the Apple logo appears and it's finished starting up, you are shown the utility window which means now you are in MacBook recovery mode.
Here you can erase your hard disk and perform the reset to do this follow these steps:-
Step 1:- Click on the option Disk Utility.
Step 2:- Then Click on the Continue.
Step 3:- Now Click on the View and then Show All Devices.
Step 4:- Now Select your hard drive which you want to erase and then click Erase.
Step 5:- In the Format field, choose the APFS option on macOS High Sierra or later. On macOS Sierra or an earlier version, choose the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) option.
Step 6:- Now click on the erase button.
After clicking on the erase button you will wipe your MacBook Air's hard drive clean. It can take several minutes to complete. After completing the process you need to reinstall macOS. Follow these steps to reinstall macOS.
Step 1:- From the utility menu, click on the Reinstall macOS.
Step 2:- Click on the Continue button.
Step 3:- Now just follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
