Reviews

You can't always sit at your desk and work. The Dell Precision 3520 (INR 68,450 to start, INR 82,900 as tested), a portable workstation to tote around if you like, has discrete graphics. A powerful combination for multitasking and graphics performance is the Intel Core i7 CPU and Nvidia Quadro GPU, and the optional six-cell battery lasts more than 10 hours. However, the dim screen and flimsy keyboard of this Dell will make you look at its rivals.

Design

The Dell Precision 3520 laptop weighs 5.2 pounds, has dimensions of 14.6 x 9.9 x 1.9 inches, and has a 15-inch display. The computer's pointing stick, which is black and the only other color in the device, is the only thing that is colored. The Precision, according to Dell, has been MIL-STD tested to withstand vibrations, extreme temperatures, shocks, and dust. Both the Smart Card reader and a fingerprint reader for Windows Hello were included with our model.

Display

The 15.6-inch, 1080p touch screen of the Precision 3320 is bright yet crisp. It only offers 69 percent of the sRGB color spectrum compared to 118 percent for the typical desktop replacement. With a Delta-E score of 2, the Precision outperforms the competition regarding accuracy (0 is ideal).

Keyboard, Touchpad, And Pointing Stick

The keyboard on the Precision 3520 isn't pleasant to type on. While the keys have 1.9mm of travel, the 55 grams of force required to press them down doesn't feel like enough. The touchpad was smooth and responsive to gestures in Windows 10, but the mouse buttons underneath it were too small for my liking.

Audio

The Precision 3520 has strong speakers. Though the latter sounded hollow, the marimba and the vocals filled the space as I listened to Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You." Pumping up the bass dial didn't do much with the pre-installed Waves MaxxAudio Pro app, but turning up the details dial made the percussion stand out more.

Performance

With its 2.9-GHz Intel Core i7-7820HQ CPU, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB M.2 PCIe SSD, the Precision is excellent for multitasking. The Precision notched a score of 14,985 on the Geekbench 3 overall performance test. It copied 4.97GB of files in just 9 seconds, a rate of 565MBps faster than the average (522.8MBps).

Battery Life

You can put in a full day's work and then some overtime with the Precision 3520. On the Laptop Mag Battery test, Dell's workstation's six-cell battery lasted an astounding 10 hours and 16 minutes, more than double the 4:51 desktop replacement average.

The Precision 5520 performed even better, lasting 11 hours and 57 minutes instead of 8 and 25 minutes for the ThinkPad P50 and 5 and 8 minutes for the ZBook Studio G3.

WebCam

The Precision 3520's 720p webcam produces sharp, color-accurate images. My olive-green sweater looked beautiful in the photo I took of myself in our laboratories, and my hair was well-defined but not so much that you could see each strand.

Heat

During routine use, the Precision became a little warm. The Laptop's underside registered 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the G and H keys registered 96.5 degrees, and the touchpad registered 84 degrees after 15 minutes of streaming HD video from YouTube. Over 95 degrees Fahrenheit is uncomfortable for us.

Software And Warranty

Dell's Precision 3520 laptop runs Windows 10 and has a three-year warranty. The company's software makes it easy to troubleshoot and, if necessary, contact tech support. Command Power Manager lets you check your battery life and schedule when your Laptop uses its battery or charger.

Configurations

Dell's Precision 3520 laptop can be had for as little as INR 68,55 or as much as INR 1,30,880 before extras like a second hard drive and extended warranty. The base model has an Intel Core i5-7440HQ CPU, 4GB of RAM, a 500GB, 7,200-rpm HDD, and a four-cell battery. It also has no fingerprint reader and no discrete graphics.

Verdict

The Dell Precision 3520 is a serviceable laptop that will handle anything you throw at it. You can get a Dell refurbished laptop at NSS for just INR 32,499. However, the original Dell Precision laptop is at 68,455 INR. The screen is dim and dull, and the keyboard is awkward to type on. Dell's Precision 5520 offers a far superior keyboard and screen if you can spend a few hundred dollars more. Lenovo ThinkPad P50 is also a better but more expensive choice, as it offers a best-in-class keyboard and pointing stick.
